A coupon adds a visible discount or fee line to the order. To change one product’s unit price for a while with no code, use that product’s Pricing Policy promotional price instead. The two stack: the promotional price sets the line price first, then a coupon discounts the order on top.
Before You Start
- You need the orders.edit permission. Settings shows Adjustments & Coupons only to roles that hold it, and the server refuses to list or change rules without it.
- Decide which accounts discounts and fees should post to before you create rules that apply automatically.
Open Adjustments & Coupons
- In the deck, open Settings.
- Under Products & Pricing, choose Adjustments & Coupons.
The Rule List
Filter the list with All, Discounts, and Fees; each shows its count. Rules that belong to a campaign are grouped under the campaign’s header, which you can collapse, and standalone rules sit in an Ungrouped section. A rule shows an Inactive badge when it is turned off and an Auto badge when it applies automatically. When there are no rules, the list reads “No adjustments configured yet”. Each rule row has a switch to activate or deactivate it, and buttons to edit or delete it.Create A Rule
Click Create. The Create Adjustment dialog walks you through four steps.Step 1: The basics
- Name (required), such as New Customer Discount.
- Promo Code (optional): a code customers type to redeem the rule. Leave it blank to apply the rule automatically or by hand. Return and cancellation rules have no promo code.
- Description, and Campaign (optional) to group the rule. Choose No campaign (standalone), an existing campaign, or + Create a new campaign.
- Applies to: Orders, Returns, Both orders and returns, or Cancellations (order cancel/refund fee).
Step 2: What the customer gets
- Effect Type: Discount, Fee, or Free Item (adds the reward line to the order automatically).
- Reward type: a percent or dollar amount off, Free shipping (zeroes the order shipping total when the rule is met), or A specific reward item (Buy X Get Y), with the Reward product, Reward quantity, and Reward discount % (100 = FREE). You can add more rewards that apply from the same trigger.
- Scope: Entire Order, Specific Products, or Specific Categories.
- For a fee on returns: Fee type (restocking, handling, processing, shipping deduction, or other return fee), Minimum fee (), and Fee taxable.
Step 3: When it applies
- Order conditions such as minimum order value and minimum quantity, Min Qty per Product or Min Qty per Category, and Requirement Logic: ALL (AND) or ANY (OR).
- Start Date and End Date.
- Burn Rate: Forever (no cap), Single Use (once ever), Per Customer (once per customer), or Limited (a total number of uses you enter in Max Uses).
- Stacking rules: Exclusivity (Stackable or Exclusive), a Combination limit, and whether the rule can share an order with automatic or code-entered coupons.
- Restrict to customer tiers (pricing levels); leave empty for all.
- GL routing (accounting): Post this coupon’s discounts to the default sales discounts account, or another account you choose.
Step 4: Where it shows up
- For order rules, optionally limit the rule by Delivery method and Sales channel. Leave both empty for all orders.
- Auto-apply makes the rule apply on its own when an order qualifies. For a return rule, leave it off to pick the rule by hand on the RMA. For a cancellation rule it must be on; otherwise the banner “This rule will never fire” appears.
Campaigns
Click New Campaign to create a campaign (the Create Campaign dialog). In edit mode the campaign lists its rules; add another rule to it, edit one, or remove one from the campaign. A campaign can be set inactive, and its header shows an Inactive badge. Save the campaign before adding rules to it. Deleting a campaign never deletes its coupons. “Delete Campaign” explains that its coupons become standalone and move to Ungrouped.Delete Or Deactivate A Rule
- A rule that has never been used can be deleted. The Delete Adjustment dialog asks “Permanently delete” the rule, and it cannot be undone.
- A rule that has been used on any order cannot be deleted. The dialog says how many orders used it; turn it off with the switch on its row instead.

What Changes Elsewhere
- Orders: a qualifying rule adds a discount or fee line to the order, automatically or when a code is entered, and order totals and tax change with it.
- Returns: return-fee rules deduct restocking, handling, processing, or shipping fees from the refund on an RMA.
- Cancellations: cancellation-fee rules are charged by the cancel and refund wizard.
- Accounting: discounts post to the account in GL routing, and each return fee type posts to its own fee income account, with fee tax when the fee is taxable.
- Reports: coupon spend can be reported by the account it posted to.
- Shopify: when the Shopify connector’s Push discount codes sync setting is on, creating or editing a rule that has a promo code also creates or updates a matching discount code in your Shopify store.
- Audit trail: creating, editing, and deleting rules and campaigns is recorded in the Audit Log.
