Packing is about the physical package. The package should match what is actually leaving the warehouse: items, quantities, box, weight, label, and handoff path.

What Pack With Arcus Does

Pack with Arcus helps operators create and manage packages for an order. A package can be created manually, edited by the operator, or suggested by PackPilot when packing automation is enabled. Once the package is correct, it can be rated, labeled, printed, and fulfilled.

  • Package records: hold box, dimensions, weight, items, label, tracking, and fulfillment state.
  • Package items: connect the physical package back to order line quantities.
  • PackPilot suggestions: can propose carton layouts when product and box data is good enough.
  • Manual packing: lets the operator add or correct packages when the physical reality differs from the suggestion.

Set Up Packing Data

Packing quality depends on setup. Product dimensions, product weight, package categories, box products, and packing settings all affect what the system can suggest or validate.

Packing Configuration settings with PackPilot auto-suggest, scoring parameters, DIM weight factor, and packing presets
  • Product dimensions and weight: required for reliable package suggestions and rates.
  • Box products or presets: define the package sizes the team can use.
  • Packing categories: separate products that should not share a box.
  • Auto-suggest PackPilot cartons: creates suggested packages when an order becomes ready to pack.
  • Scoring settings: help PackPilot choose between fewer boxes, lighter boxes, oversize penalties, and dimensional weight tradeoffs.
Bad product data creates bad packing If dimensions or weights are missing or wrong, the package suggestion and carrier rate can be wrong. Fix product fulfillment data before trusting automation.

Start From The Station Or Order

Operators can work from the order detail page or from the Fulfillment Station. The station is best for queue work because it shows the pick list, package search, printer controls, selected package, label state, and fulfillment action together.

Review Or Create Packages

Review the package before continuing. The package detail shows the order, customer, box type, dimensions, weight, carrier, label warning, package items, and available actions. If a package is missing items or has the wrong quantity, correct the package before label purchase.

  • Add Item to Package: add the correct order item and quantity to the package.
  • Move items: move package items when an item is physically in a different box.
  • Change box: update the package box or dimensions before rating.
  • Print packing slip: create package paperwork when needed.
  • Mark as Fulfilled: complete only after the package is physically ready.

Use PackPilot Suggestions

When PackPilot suggestions are enabled, Arcus can create draft suggested packages for ready-to-pack orders. Operators should review the suggested cartons against the real shelf items and boxes before accepting them.

  • Accept: use the suggested package layout when it matches what the team will pack.
  • Discard: remove the suggestion when a manual package is more accurate.
  • Create another package: split work for partial shipments, multiple boxes, or special handling.
  • Use package detail: confirm contents, label state, and completion readiness after accepting.
Suggestions do not replace operator review PackPilot can help choose cartons, but the person packing still owns the physical result. Compare the screen to what is actually in the box.

Handle Special Item Types

  • Serialized items: capture required serials before fulfillment.
  • Kits: pack the physical components that satisfy the kit order line.
  • Prepackaged items: keep manufacturer-box items separate when product setup requires it.
  • Fragile or restricted items: follow packing categories and company rules before mixing with other products.
  • Backorders: pack only the quantity leaving now and leave the rest open.

Repack Safely

If the package contents, box, dimensions, or weight change after label purchase, void the old label before repacking. The label must match the actual shipment. After repacking, get new rates, purchase the correct label, print it, and attach it to the corrected package.

Void labels before changing shipped package data A carrier label is tied to a specific package. Using a label after changing the package can cause carrier surcharges, failed tracking, or customer service issues.

Common Blocks

  • PackPilot suggestion looks wrong: check product dimensions, weight, packing category, box setup, and quantity.
  • Package has no items: add the order item quantity before rating or fulfilling.
  • Item belongs in another box: move the item instead of editing inventory manually.
  • Rates are wrong: review package weight, dimensions, ship-from address, destination address, and shipping rules.
  • Serialized item cannot complete: capture one serial number per serialized unit.
  • Need partial shipment: package only what is leaving now and leave remaining quantity open.
  • Label already purchased: void it before changing the package.
