Inventory Valuation

Before You Start

• Permission: you need the reports view permission to open the screen and run the report.
• Location filter: the Location list is read from your locations settings. It appears only when your company has more than one location, and it needs settings view access to load. Without that access the report still runs for all locations.
• Stock with cost: the report values stock from FIFO cost layers, which are created when you receive inventory with a unit cost. Stock received without a cost layer does not appear.

Run the Report

1. Open Operations > Inventory > Valuation. The report runs for today as soon as the page opens.
2. Choose the As of date. You can pick today or any earlier date; future dates are not allowed.
3. If you have more than one location, choose one in Location, or leave All locations.
4. Select Run Report. The button reads Running… while the report loads.
5. To go back to the current value, select As of Today. It is disabled while the date is already today.

Live and Historical Values

A badge above the results says which basis you are looking at:

• Live valuation as of (date) (current FIFO layers): the date is today. The report sums every open cost layer as it stands now.
• Historical snapshot as of (date) (FIFO backward-rewind): the date is in the past. Arcus rebuilds each layer’s quantity at the end of that date, counting only layers received on or before it.

Below the badge, the report states its basis in one sentence. The value here is the layer basis: every unit that still has an open cost layer, including units held in quarantine or staged for a vendor return. The inventory value on a product page or on the Inventory Overview leaves those held units out, so the two numbers can differ by exactly the value of held stock. Neither is wrong; they count different populations.

Read the Results

Summary cards:

• Total inventory value: the sum of open FIFO layer cost, held stock included.
• Total units in open layers: the units behind that value and the number of distinct SKUs.
• GL 1410 basis: the same total, labelled for comparison with your inventory asset account. The card’s note reads Layer cost, before unbacked held stock for a live run and Historical FIFO rewind for an earlier date.

Table columns: With All locations, a product held at more than one location appears on one row per location and the table does not name the location, so the SKU count on the Total units in open layers card and in the footer counts those rows. The footer row totals the units and the value for every SKU in the report.

Common Scenarios

• Month-end inventory listing: set the as-of date to the last day of the month and run the report for all locations.
• Compare to the balance sheet: use Total inventory value against your inventory asset account. If they differ, look for held stock (quarantine, vendor returns) and for stock taken into quarantine on receipt, which has no cost layer.
• One warehouse: choose the location to value only the stock there.

What This Report Does Not Change

Running the report is read-only. It posts nothing to the ledger, moves no stock, and sends no notifications.
