Pick waves organize multiple sales orders into a single efficient picking session. Instead of picking one order at a time, staff members gather items for multiple orders, reducing travel time and labor.

Create a Pick Wave

  1. Go to Warehouse > Pick Waves or Fulfillment > Waves.
  2. Click Create Wave.
  3. Select the orders to include in this wave (filter by status, location, or priority).
  4. Arcus generates a consolidated pick list showing all items from all selected orders.
  5. Click Start Wave.

Work the Pick List

  1. Open the pick list on a mobile device or at a picking station
  2. Navigate to each bin location listed
  3. For each line item:
    • Scan or manually verify the product
    • Verify the quantity
    • Place items in the wave container (cart, bin, tote)
  4. Mark items as picked
  5. Move to the next bin
The system guides you through the most efficient route to minimize walking.

Complete Picking and Move to Packing

  1. When all items are picked, click Picking Complete.
  2. The system moves items to a Staging or Packing bin.
  3. Packing staff receives the consolidated group and sorts items by order.
  4. Each order is packed and labeled for shipment.

Exceptions and Short Picks

If an item is out of stock during picking:
  • The system notifies you
  • You can mark it as a short pick (order ships without this item)
  • Or wait for more stock to arrive
  • A back-order or partial shipment note is created

Wave Priorities

You can set wave priorities based on:
  • Order date - Oldest orders first (FIFO)
  • Promised ship date - Orders due to ship first
  • Customer - High-value customers prioritized
  • Manual - Supervisor selects specific orders

Formal vs Informal Picking

Formal picking (wave-based):
  • System-generated pick lists
  • Optimized route planning
  • Multiple orders consolidated
  • Batch efficiency
Informal picking (ad-hoc):
  • Individual order picked one at a time
  • No formal wave
  • Used for small operations or urgent orders

GL and Inventory Impact

Pick waves do not post GL entries during picking. When items are picked and packed, the fulfillment process reserves inventory. GL entries post when the order ships and revenue is recognized.

Troubleshooting

“No orders available for wave” - Ensure orders are in Confirmed or Ready status. Draft orders cannot be picked. “Item in the wave is out of stock” - Verify bin quantities match the system. A cycle count may be needed if there is a discrepancy. “Wave is taking too long” - Check if items are scattered across many bins. Consider rebalancing bin assignments or using bulk orders.
