# Scanners

> Use Scanners settings to register Arcus Command devices, review online status, assign user and location context, control sync, and inspect recent scan history.

<Note>
  Scanner classification is handled by Arcus so Zebra, Arcus Command, packing,
  serial capture, and scan logs stay consistent.

## Open Scanners

1. Open **Settings**.
2. Choose **Entity Settings**.
3. Open **Shipping and Fulfillment**.
4. Choose **Scanners**.

## Register A Device

1. Install or open Arcus Command on the scanner.
2. Use the entity setup code or QR code shown in Scanners settings.
3. Sign in with the assigned warehouse user.
4. Confirm the device appears in Registered Devices.
5. Assign or verify location and user context.
6. Run a test scan and confirm it appears in Recent Scans.

## Understand Scan Types

* **Serial**: package-scoped serial format or matching serial number.
* **Label**: tracking number or shipment label match.
* **Box**: barcode for a box product.
* **Item**: barcode for a non-box product.
* **Order**: order number match.
* **Unknown**: no match found, but the scan stays in the log for review.

## Common Blocks

* **Device is offline**: confirm Arcus Command is open, network is available, and sync is enabled.
* **Scans are unknown**: verify the barcode belongs to a supported order, product, serial, label, or box product.
* **Wrong location appears**: update assigned location and confirm the user is in the correct entity.
* **Duplicate prefix appears**: remove manual DataWedge prefixes because Arcus Command adds identifiers automatically.
* **Recent scan is missing**: check scanner sync, date filters, device filters, and network status.
